Superlative after superlative at the 38th BMW BERLIN MARATHON 2011. It has never occurred before at a marathon in Berlin and only twice in the history of the marathon: both of the reigning world record holders will be at the start – Haile Gebrselassie (2:03:59) and Paula Radcliffe (2:15:25).

The marathon superstar from Ethiopia will be racing for the 5th time in Berlin, where he has already set two world records (2007 and 2008). Paula Radcliffe of England set her fabulous world record in London in 2003. She wants to celebrate her comeback at the BMW BERLIN MARATHON after taking a two-year break to have a child. Both are in Berlin with the main goal of qualifying for the Olympic Games in London in 2012.

They will be facing top-notch competition on the streets of Berlin. For the men, this includes last year’s champion Patrick Makau and Gilbert Yegon (both of Kenya). The women’s competition is led by the German record holder, Irina Mikitenko (SC Gelnhausen, 2:19:19).

The 38th BMW BERLIN MARATON will be broadcasted live in more than 150 countries.
